Biography

Dr. Bret Adams grew up in the Washington DC suburbs and completed his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry at the University of Richmond.  He went on to obtain both his MD and PhD at the Medical College of Virginia/VCU School of Medicine.  His research focused on developing drugs to make radiation more effective. He then completed an internship in Medicine at VCU. His Radiation Oncology residency training was completed at Jackson Memorial Hospital/Sylvester Cancer Center in South Florida.

 

During his training at Jackson Memorial Hospital, Dr. Adams served as Chief Resident in the Department of Radiation Oncology.  He completed several book chapters on delivery of radiation and has contributed numerous publications to the field.  He is an active member of ASTRO/American Society for Radiation Oncology.

 

Dr. Adams most enjoys spending time with his wife and son. Together they stay active by taking advantage many of the outdoor activities living in Blue Ridge Mountains affords.

Dr. John K. McCool grew up in Cleveland, Mississippi and completed his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry at the University of Mississippi.  He went on to obtain his medical education at Georgetown University School of Medicine and an internship in General Surgery at Boston University Medical Center.  His Radiation Oncology residency training was completed at New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, a teaching hospital of Weill Cornell Medical College in New York, New York.

During his education at NYP Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, Dr. McCool served for two years as the Chief Resident in the Department of Radiation Oncology.  He contributed to numerous publications and underwent additional elective training in brachytherapy at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and Brigham and Women’s Hospital during his graduate medical education.

He spends his spare time enjoying a number of outdoor activities available in southwest Virginia, including hiking, kayaking, fly-fishing and cycling.

Dr. John Rogers grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana, and then attended Hobart College in Geneva, New York. After earning his bachelor’s degree in physics, he attended medical school at the Louisiana State University School of Medicine. Dr. Rogers did internship in internal medicine at the Ochsner Foundation Hospital and Clinic in New Orleans.  He completed his residency in radiation oncology at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where he also served as chief resident. Dr. Rogers participated in basic science and clinical research related to multiple cancer sites with results published in several journals. He received board certification in radiation oncology in 2006 and recertification in 2016.

Dr. Rogers is also a pilot and has served in the US Air Force since 1999. He continues to actively serve with the Air National Guard.

Dr. David Buck, originally from Radford, Virginia, completed a degree in nuclear engineering from the University of Virginia and is a graduate of the Medical College of Virginia. He completed his transitional residency internship at the Carilion Health System in Roanoke, Virginia. He then completed a radiation oncology residency at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Virginia. 

Prior to joining Blue Ridge Cancer Care, Dr. Buck served as the chief resident of the Department of Radiation Oncology at the Medical College of Virginia.  He is currently the medical director for the Department of Radiation Oncology at the Carilion Clinic Cancer Center and chair of Carilion’s Oncology Committee.

Dr. Padmaja Mallidi was born in India and graduated from Guntur Medical College, University of Health Sciences in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, India. She completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at New York Methodist Hospital, affiliated with Cornell University Medical Center in New York, New York. Dr. Mallidi then did her subspecialty training in hematology and medical oncology at West Virginia University Hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia. 

She is board certified in hematology, medical oncology and internal medicine. She graduated from the University of Arizona in June 2011 with a fellowship in integrative medicine. 

Dr. Mallidi is a member of several professional societies including the American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Society of Hematology, American College of Physicians, Society of Integrative Oncology, Roanoke Academy of Medicine and American Medical Association, etc. 

She received the “Best Resident” award during her residency training. She also received “Outstanding Attending Physician” award from the Carilion Clinic Internal Medicine Residency Program.

Dr. Mallidi has been practicing at Blue Ridge Cancer Care in the Roanoke office location since 2003. She cares for patients with different cancers including breast, lung, colon, head and neck, lymphoma, leukemia, brain tumors and others and a wide range of diseases related to blood disorders. Dr. Mallidi continues to be active in clinical cancer research. She has contributed to various publications and presentations. She enjoys teaching medical students and residents. 

She also serves as the medical director of inpatient oncology at Roanoke Memorial Hospital and serves as a member of the cancer committee for Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. 

She has a passion for holistic care and would like to incorporate healthy eating and lifestyle habits, herbal supplements and adjunctive therapies in the management of her patients.

Dr. Mark Kochenderfer received his M.D. and his B.A. at West Virginia University. While at Wake Forest, he was honored with serving as Chief Fellow from 2004 to 2005.
