Blue Ridge Cancer Care Medical Oncologist, Dr. Harry McCoy, receives prestigious humanitarian award.

Dr. Harry McCoy, a Medical Oncologist and Hematologist with Blue Ridge Cancer Care was recently presented with the 2013 National Frist Humanitarian Award.  Established in 1971, the award honors outstanding individuals for their humanitarian and volunteer activities. The Frist Humanitarian Awards are given annually in recognition of the caring spirit and philanthropic work of the late Dr. Thomas Frist Sr., a founder of HCA.  Dr. McCoy is board certified in oncology, hematology, internal medicine, hospice and palliative care and has become well-known throughout the New River Valley over the years for the time, attention, and compassion he gives to his patients. Beyond treating cancer patients medically, Dr. McCoy has devoted his carrer to helping patients and their families cope with both the psychological and emotional aspects of cancer. Dr. McCoy served as a director for Hospice for many years, and through his work with the Palliative Care Partnership of the New River Valley, he provides training to both healthcare professionals and the community about end-of-life care. In addition to his work with Blue Ridge Cancer Care, Dr. McCoy is a founding member of Sojourn Center, which is a community based, not-for-profit hospice expected to open later in 20
