Blue Ridge Cancer Care Adds New Medical Oncologist to Roanoke Facility, Enhancing Timely Access to Quality Care
Dr. Amanda Gillespie-Twardy joins BRCC’s Roanoke office.
Roanoke, Virginia (October 16, 2014) – Blue Ridge Cancer Care (BRCC), the leading cancer
care provider serving Southwest Virginia for more than 35 years and an affiliate of The US
Oncology Network, has added another medical oncologist to its staff, enhancing care to patients
in the Roanoke area. Amanda Gillespie-Twardy, M.D., joined BRCC in early September and is
now seeing patients at the Roanoke facility.
“We make it our mission to provide patients quick and easy access to the high-quality advanced
cancer care they need and desire,” said William A. Fintel, M.D., practice president and medical
oncologist, BRCC. “The addition of Dr. Gillespie-Twardy to our team will help us serve more
patients and continue our delivery of timely, excellent care at our Roanoke location to better meet
the growing demand for our services. We want patients to know, if you’re diagnosed with cancer,
come here first, you’ll get the care you desire.”
Blue Ridge Cancer Care is a multidisciplinary privately-owned practice specializing in the
diagnosis and treatment of cancer and blood disorders. The practice provides comprehensive
integrated care, including cutting-edge clinical trials through its affiliation with The US Oncology
Network and US Oncology Research. With the addition of Dr. Gillespie-Twardy, the practice has
19 cancer physicians serving patients in nine locations throughout Southwest Virginia, including
seven at the Roanoke facility.
“Dr. Gillespie-Twardy comes to Blue Ridge Cancer Care by way of the University of Pittsburgh
Medical Center where she finished both her Internal Medicine residency and her Hematology-
Oncology Fellowship. Her accomplishments there include research in adult leukemia,” noted Dr.
Fintel. “We are very excited to have her whole family in town and to have the fresh ideas and new
energy she brings to our practice.”
Dr. Gillespie-Twardy is no stranger to Virginia, having completed her undergraduate studies at
the University of Virginia in Charlottesville and her M.D. degree at Virginia Commonwealth
University School of Medicine in Richmond.
“I am excited to return to Virginia and become part of a practice with such a rich history of
delivering high-quality, compassionate cancer care to the region,” said Dr. Gillespie-Twardy.
“Joining Blue Ridge Cancer Care allows me to offer my patients the very latest treatment options,
including advanced clinical trials, providing patients the best possible outcomes and quality of
life.”
